Minimize Lines & Wrinkles with Botox

What is Botox?

Botox is the brand name for a specific type of botulinum type A toxin, called onabotulinumtoxinA (ONA) — first approved for cosmetic use in 2002.

How does it work?

As a neurotoxin, the goal of Botox is to block Acetylcholine (ACH) transmission at the muscle thereby minimizing contractions of the muscle and relaxing it.

Common Cosmetic Uses

Botox is ideal from the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, including:

It can also be used to help reduce banding in the neck caused by the platysma muscle and minimize a gummy smile (a condition where you have too much of your gums exposed when smiling).

What can you expect during treatment?

All services at Skin Rejuvenation Clinique are performed in the privacy of a treatment room and administered by a licensed and certified professional. Treatment time is 15 to 30 minutes.

Your injection specialist will gently administer small injections that are virtually painless into targeted areas. No anesthesia is required, but you may numb the area with an ice pack or lidocaine cream prior to injections. You may experience minimal and brief discomfort.

Downtime

There is little-to-no downtime for Botox, but you may opt to avoid wearing a hat or sweating with outdoor activities or exercise.

How long does Botox last?

You can begin to see results in just a few days. The full effect of Botox can take a few weeks to see and the results can last a few months at a time. Results vary with each patient.

Botox vs. Dysport: What is the difference?

There is no difference in chemical composition. Dysport is the brand name for another type A botulinum toxin called abobotulinumtoxinA (ABO), approved for cosmetic use in 2009. However, there is a difference in their potencies and onset. Dysport is less potent than Botox but can produce what’s known as a feathering effect. You need more of it to get a similar effect as Botox, but at the end, the total price of the treatment ends up being about the same. The ratio of Dysport to Botox used is about 3:1.
